Diamond Carat Weight

Diamond Carat Weight

A metric "carat" is defined as 200 milligrams. Each carat then can be subdivided into 100 ‘points’ to allow a very precise measurement to the hundredth decimal place. A 0.43 carats diamond may be referred to as 'forty-three pointer.' Diamonds weighing greater than one carat are expressed in carats and decimals. A 1.43 carat stone may be referred to as 'a carat forty three.'

Although a carat weight increases the price, the value of a diamond is determined with all the 4Cs. Larger diamonds are precious and rare. It is also important that two diamonds with the same carat weight but with different color, cut and clarity, can have different value and price.
